Background in the field of CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) Numeca Int. has been created as the result of successful research activities in the field of CFD systems, carried out at the department of Fluid Mechanics of the Vrije Universiteit Brussels, headed by Prof. Charles Hirsch. These research activities led to various software systems in grid generation, in flow simulation and in scientific visualization. As these programs were rapidly becoming successful, it was decided to give full time professional attention to their further development, to the activities related to the creation of industrial computational environments. Through the collaboration with several University Departments and Research Laboratories, Numeca Int. follows the latest developments in CFD and object-oriented engineering very closely. This leads to the production of creative and innovative products in all CFD application fields. Today, Numeca’s FINETM (Flow INtegrated
Environments) series have become one of the most accurate, fastest and
user-friendly CFD software on the market.
NUMECA has developed advanced Flow Integrated Environments, enabling engineers and designers to handle complete flow simulations, through interactive, user-sensitive and dynamic Graphical User Interfaces (GUI). FINE enables the user to navigate through three software systems :
The FINE series offers :
FINE series has been customized to a wide range of industrial applications :
IGG is a highly efficient geometry modeller and grid generator system, based on the most advanced software tools and standards, such as object oriented languages and interactive graphics, integrated with X-Windows. IGG provides all necessary interactive tools to create, in a very short time, complex 2D/3D structured multi-block meshes. Furthermore, IGG is interfaced with CAD-CAM systems through its IGES translator, enabling fast loading of external geometry. IGG/Autogrid (included in FINE/Turbo) is a fully automatic meshing tool for cylindrical configurations such as mixers and turbomachines, integrated as a separate module in IGG.
IGG/Hexa (not yet published) is an automatic unstructured mesh generator, able to generate complex Euler- or Navier-Stokes-type meshes, based exclusively on hexahedral elements. Triangular or tetrahedral elements are avoided because of their lack of accuracy for Navier-Stokes solvers. These unstructured hexahedral meshes work with a CAD surface definition of the configuration.
NUMECA has developed a powerful numerical simulator, offering the following
capabilities:
Furthermore, the NUMECA flow solver benefits from the most recent numerical techniques, ensuring high accuracy of the solution while reducing the computational time.
CFView is a highly interactive computational field visualization system,
providing all qualitative and quantitative tools for flow analysis.
CFView allows to speed up considerably the visualization by the use of macro-commands and by the interactive manipulation of any graphical object with various representations, such as isolines, color contours, streamlines, shading, vectors, sections, cartesian plots. CFView makes also possible any comparison between experimental data and computational results. New Product: FINE /Hexa Numeca is prototyping its brand new FINE/Hexa environment, automating the complete CFD process for complex geometries. FINE/Hexa is based on new core technologies in automatic meshing and unstructured flow solver, opening the door to the 21st century in CFD. FINE/Hexa combines: IGG/Hexa, the full automatic unstructured grid generator based on hexahedral elements; The new unstructured multigrid adaptive flow solver written in C++; The unstructured flow visualizer, CFView.
FINE/Hexa offers unique features:
Fully automatic unstructured meshes with hexahedra only (no tetrahedra) ; Full adaptivity directly controlled by the flow solver, optimizing the running time.It is foreseen for the end of 2001 the issue on the market of the new combustion module.
